Resortation Projects
This marsh restoration project was supported through
a Landowner Incentive Program grant from the CT Department of Environmental
Protection Wildlife Division and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
The Old Saybrook Land Trust took on the challenge to act as a liaison
between over 200 property-owners and the DEP for outreach, education
and administrative work. The partnership of federal, state and local
land trust represents a unique opportunity to carry out habitat
management to the benefit declining species at risk by offering
technical advice and cost sharing to private landowners. This approach
has been heralded by an official of the US Fish and Wildlife Service
as “the new frontier in conservation.”
