Welcome to the Old Saybrook Land Trust Old Saybrook, with its wealth of natural resources, is a beautiful place to live and to visit. The estuary of the Connecticut River has been both nationally and internationally recognized for its ecological significance, provides habitat for a number of rare and endangered species and is an important stopover for migrating waterfowl, as well as a critical spawning area for fish. Rich tidal wetlands fringe the town’s southern boundary along Long Island Sound, with two tidal river systems providing additional significant habitat. No less important are the forested uplands of the town, a complex of rocky outcrops interspersed with rich inland wetland habitat. The Old Saybrook Land Trust was established in 1997 to provide a vehicle for the protection and preservation of our town’s natural resources. We are a voluntary, non-profit 501©3 organization supported by financial contributions from individuals and businesses that share a commitment to protect the natural beauty of Old Saybrook. We work with landowners, the town of Old Saybrook, the state and other conservation groups and foundations to preserve key habitats in terms of plants and animals, clean water, or open space for the benefit of the general public and its future generations. Old Saybrook Land Trust is
as great as the strength of its membership! |
